Elevated to Significant Fire Danger: February 27–28, 2026

The National Weather Service in Springfield, Missouri has issued a notice for elevated to significant fire danger in our area on Friday, February 27 and Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Warmer-than-normal temperatures, southwest winds 15–25 mph with higher gusts, and minimum relative humidity of 20–25% are creating conditions that can lead to erratic and rapid fire spread if a fire starts.

Because of these conditions, we are asking residents to not burn on February 27 and 28, 2026.

This includes:
• Brush or debris burning
• Burn barrels
• Any other burning

Avoid activities that cause open flames or sparks (such as welding or using grinders). Properly discard cigarettes and avoid parking vehicles on dry grass.

Elevated fire danger means weather and land conditions are favorable for fires to start easily and spread quickly.
