Neosho – Newton County Library

The Neosho-Newton County Library occupies the Jeffers Motor Company Building, located at 201 W. Spring Street. The one-story brick, eight-bay, one-part commercial building was constructed in 1917. The main façade retains an original entrance opening. Flanking this entrance are original two-light display windows with four-light transoms. Above the entrance is brick relief arching and a brick keystone.  Above the display windows are soldier course lintels and concrete corner block. The building originally had 2 garage door openings with track doors. The track doors were replaced with tri-part six-over-nine rectangular sash with six-light transoms. Above the windows are rectangular concrete panels with inset brick banding. Below the roofline is a corbelled brick cornice and at the roofline is corbelled coping.

The Jeffers building was built as a Ford agency and repair shop. Mr. Jeffers bought out the other partners in the firms and formed the Jeffers Motor Company in the 1920s. The building was later used by Branco until 1994. In 1994, it was remodeled into the Neosho-Newton County Library and dedicated March 5, 1995. The library completed an expansion to the building in 2018.
